Vitamin D
2000-4000 IU of vitamin D3 a day people we are wildly deficient as a people and the research is suggesting that the pathetic levels from the government RDA are nowhere near what we truly need. A study in the October 07 issue of Epidemiology and Infection (a scholarly journal) stated that over t 3 year period taking 800IU of vitamin D3 reduced colds and flus by 70% and taking 2000iu over three years reduced the incidence of colds and flus to near zero. (way more effective than any Flu shot and without side effects) - more to come on D3.

Ritalin and ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)
Today’s world seems to have a large portion of our children on mind-altering drugs like Ritalin. Are our youth really in that much health distress that we need to drug them up so often and for so many years? Health Canada estimates that there has been an increase in Ritalin use of 547% since 1990. There is growing controversy in society about the use of such drugs, and in my opinion, it is justified.
Ritalin is a stimulant and is in a group of drugs that are considered addictive drugs. If you believe that this drug cannot or will not hurt your child, you have been misinformed.
Side effects of Ritalin include: depression, social withdrawal, irritability, increased weepiness, memory problems, anxiety, tension, agitation, the Zombie Effect, less feeling and spontaneity, some danger of cancer, sadness, headache, insomnia, loss of appetite, stomach pain, dry mouth, growth suppression, anemia, skin rashes, stiff joints, peeling skin, palpitations, hair pulling, and twitches.
Organ systems that are affected are cardiovascular, central nervous system, gastrointestinal, and endocrine (hormonal).
Toxic psychosis (hallucinations) can result.
Do you remember the shooting and killing that occurred in Columbine High School in the United States? Right now, a lawsuit is in the courts from the families of the victims against the drug company Sulvay Pharmaceuticals Inc. The lawsuit claims that this violent act was because of the drugs the shooter was taking for ADHD. They also claim that there is also a connection between other high school shootings and these drugs.
Placing children on mind-altering drugs will no doubt grow in controversy. The FDA has admitted that the controlled studies used to put drugs on the market are too short, too small in patient numbers and too limited in the range of patients and clinical conditions to rule out all potentially adverse reactions.
My opinion is that Ritalin, and drugs like it are very dangerous, and I do not believe for a second that they are safe and okay for children to take. If you are interested in learning about natural methods to help children with ADHD, ask us.

The Mathmatics of Health
We all learn our basic math skills in elementary school from qualified instructors. Health skills are learned throughout a life time (and often times by those less than qualified to teach.) In the same way that 2+2=4 is a universal truth, there are equations that must lead to health in the same way. Today we begin with basic healthy math. Today's health equation is
YOU + X - Y = Health
Lets start with addition: Addition is the most basic step in mathematics and in health here is a list of healthy things to add to your daily life. (Remember we are starting with basic math so just add a few at a time, add more every day to solve the problem- like with all learning, practice makes perfect.)
X= 30 minutes of exercise every day, more pure water, deep breathing, fresh fruits and vegetables, loving relationship, connection to Creator, laughter, stretching a few times a week, chiropractic adjustments to the spine. (remember these are just basic math - complexity comes later)
Subtraction: Step two in math and health (removing these things from your life is a great start to moving towards health.)
Y= Stop smoking, cut back on salt intake, lose a few pounds, get rid of unhealthy relationships, sit less often, watch less TV, worry less about things you can't change, eat less fast food, drink less soda. (basic math take one or two at a time - practice makes perfect. )
Once we have our basic skills down we have them for life. We can then learn more complex equations and solve evermore complex problems. The same can be said of rules for health once you have the basics down then you can solve more complex problems.
Next week class we start to multiply and divide :)
