Is the Government trying to make you fat?

It is no secret that Americans are fat and getting fatter. Ten years ago American women's waists were 2 inches smaller and the average 18 year old now weighs 15 lbs more than those in 1970. Health care and the obesity epidemic are very hot topics in government and media today, but what exactly are government officials doing to change this. The following is a list shows were federal food production subsidies go:
•Meat/Dairy -- 73.8 percent
•Grains -- 13.2 percent
•Sugar/Oil/Starch/Alcohol -- 10.7 percent
•Nuts/Legumes -- 1.9 percent
•Vegetables/Fruits -- 0.4 percent

So basically our government subsidizes fast food diets. That is why you can feed a family of 4 for $10 at MacDonald's. I believe many of our society’s chronic health problems could be resolved if attention was paid, at the highest levels of government, to the root problem – our agricultural subsidies.

To make a change we must start supporting small local farmers and work fruits and vegetables into our budget. It is basic supply and demand, if we stop lining up around the block for MacDonald's drive through things will change!!

Forever committed to your health,

Dr. Adam Rushford
